It is 14th November 2017. The readings are from Wisdom 2:23-3:9; and the Gospel is from Luke 17:7-10. The first reading strengths our hope and faith in God and alerts about the interruption of the devil in our lives. We are from God and therefore we are destined to live with God. We are beyond the mortal bodies. Our life cannot be summed up with the physical body. We hope with the author of the book of Wisdom, we will be with God one day for having been good, sincere and righteous. We are not going through the inconveniences and sufferings for nothings. We bore them for a higher cause of being in union with God. As God is immortal, we too share in the immortality until when humanity was misguided by the envy of the devil. If we live a life full of love and charity, we will be enjoying the security and peace with God. “Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.” (Wis.3:9). Only those who have no faith find it hard to believe and accept that our lives are in the hands of God after this life. The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “I will bless the Lord at all times.” (Ps.33:2). In the Gospel, Jesus explains the meaning of being a servant. We are all the servants of the Lord in love. We are serving the Lord because we are called by God to so. There is nothing we could demand just because we are serving the Lord. Serving the Lord for material gains and blessings are not the purpose of being a servant. Pride and self-righteous attitudes murder the spirit of servanthood. Some of us have acquired or manifested a type of attitude and behavior as soon as we hold a responsibility in the Church, the Community and in the Society. Being servant is a not a privilege, but it is the power to be humble. Let us just perform the duty for the sake of being accountable to God. Let us not look for reward, favour, promotions, bonus for being a servant. If the place we belong undermines and sidelines our service, we must not give up rather we must accelerate doing the service all the more. If no one motivates us to be the servant, we must become the motivators to do so. It is good to find meaning and attach a meaning for being a servant with the Lord not elsewhere. May we truly become humble servants. God is still in search of a humble human hearts to serve Him no matter what state of life we are in. May you have a good day.
