It is 29th May 2019. The readings are from Acts 17:15, 22-18:1; and the Gospel from John 16:12-15. We all have a unique space within us that we are not still familiar. Unless we need to live in the spirit, we cannot unpack the power and presence of God in our life. The life in the Spirit helps us to discover the power of the Holy Spirit to be repented from our sins, to live without fear, utilising the gifts of the Spirit to trust the Holy Spirit, to be opened in heart and mind, and to grow in the deep desire to live in the Spirit so as to heal the wounds and fill the emptiness in our souls. St. Paul writes, “When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.” (Rom. 8:15b-17). In the first reading, St. Paul tries to evangelise with his philosophical erudition to make the listeners in Athens to bring them closer to Christ, the unknown God amidst them. Meeting the unknown within each of us is the primary task of evangelisation. “Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one, who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 Jn. 5:5) To accept the resurrection of the Lord, we need to be baptised in the Holy Spirit. His Holiness Pope Francis teaches us, “The Spirit is the protagonist of Christian life; (it is) the Spirit – the Holy Spirit – that is in us, that accompanies us, that transforms us and is triumphant within us, to give us this knowledge that we cannot be Christians without walking with the Holy Spirit, without acting with the Holy Spirit, without letting the Holy Spirit be the protagonist in our lives.” We cannot evangelise without the power of the Holy Spirit. The responsorial Psalm praises, “Heaven and earth are filled with your glory.” (Ps.148:1). In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us about the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches us and reminds the truth that Jesus is the Lord. Unfolding gradually with the help of the Holy Spirit we encounter God. Growing and living in the complete truth about Jesus, life and the Gospel are only possible with the Spirit of Truth. It is an inner journey that makes us to encounter Christ in the others. May we be open to the Spirit of God to experience the Truth, the Life and the Way. May you have a good day. God bless you.
