Dear People of God,
It is 29th day of December. In our parish, we remember the Martyrdom of the Holy Innocents. St. Augustine beautifully points out regarding the murder of the Innocents in Bethlehem in the following lines,”The precious death of any martyr deserves high praise because of his heroic confession; the death of these children is precious in the sight of God because of the beatitude they gained so quickly. For already at the beginning of their lives they pass on. The end of the present life is for them the beginning of glory.” The first reading from the prophet Jeremiah says that they shall come back from the land of enemy and your children shall come back to their own country. In the gospel, we read, “Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.” These little children were murdered for the selfish arrogance of the king Herod. How many children of God today are murdered by the evil ones for their selfishness and personal arrogance? What would be the appropriate response to these murders happening in our households, and in our society where we live. Let us pray for these innocent martyrs for Jesus in our society. Have a blessed day.
