It is 28th November 2015. The readings are from Dan.7:15-27 and the Gospel from Lk.21:34-36. The first reading is the interpretation of the dream of Daniel. “The kingship and dominion and majesty of all the kingdoms under the heavens shall be given to the holy people of the Most High, whose Kingdom shall be everlasting: all dominions shall serve and obey him.” (Dn.7:27). The ultimate victory belongs to God. It seems as though God and God’s people are humiliated by the evil and ungodly people. The forces of evil will never overcome the absolute good, God. The God’s people are at war with these evil forces within and around. We are truly tested by these forces. What is required of us is steadfast trust in God and unshakable endurance to all that is happening around us. We must never become slave to the pleasures of this world. A definite choice on spiritual matters is the need of the hour. Our complacency, false security in material things and people are the destructive forces of evil which corrodes our being. The Responsorial Psalm prays, “Give glory and eternal praise to God.” (Dn. 3:59). The Gospel admonishes to be vigilant over the world and people who reject Christ. We need to be spiritually fit to meet Christ on a daily events that is unfolding. We need to be faithful to what is entrusted to us from God and the Church. Anxieties of our lives must not be allowed to dominate our spiritual wellbeing. Prayer is the only remedy to deal with the forces of evil. “Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Lk.21:26).
