It is 21st September 2018. We celebrate the Feast of St Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist. The readings are from Ephesians 4:1-7; and the Gospel of Matthew 9:9-13. Vocation is a mindset that allows a person to leave everything for God and for the welfare of the other. It is not a voluntary forgetfulness of our welfare rather it is wilful and a free choice made with the conviction to serve and search for the One our beings long for. To leave that is sure and permanent living and life-style to something that still not clear and evolving is the vocation. The vocation is the one time tickling and tingling of the Hands of God in the human soul. Once it is felt, it begins to burn all over our existence until we encounter and embrace the One who called us. God calls us to live a life selflessly and for the unity of human hearts. All of us are called by God. Some of us are called by God for a specific task while others are called by God for a particular way of life. But everyone is called to build the Kingdom of love and to share the Good News that Jesus loves everyone. Being called by God is not a privilege but living worthily and unwavering till the end is the privilege indeed and the right response to a God who trusted in calling us to serve. “But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” (Eph.4:7). The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “Their message goes out through all the earth.” (Ps.19:5). The Gospel presents us with the call of Matthew. Jesus calls us no matter where we work, what we do in our life. However sinful we could be, still Jesus needs us to build the Kingdom of justice, love, peace and mercy. Once our eyes have met the Lord, our hearts cannot move away from His look. If Jesus calls us to serve, let us not delay in responding. May you have a good day. God bless you.
