It is 26th January 2021. We celebrate the memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, Bishops. The readings are from 2 Timothy 1:1-8 and the Gospel from Luke 10:1-9.
As we celebrate the feast of St. Paul, who recognised the strength and support from Timothy and Titus.
We are the partners and co-workers as brothers and sisters and partakers in the mission of Christ. To treat the other person in our family and community as a child of God is the sincere expression of our faith to believed God as our Father.
In addressing Timothy, St. Paul would call him as a son, a partner, a brother in the work of the Lord.
There are things we need to take to our personal and spiritual growth from today first reading. Serving God in clear conscience, prayer for the partners and co-workers daily, appreciating the other person in their faith encounters, and to fan into flame the gift of God. In celebrating the other person and appreciating the other person we find ourselves. The more we find fault with the others, more we need help and healing. We all are wounded one way or the other.
How do we treat one another as we serve the Lord? Do we handle the other with care or carelessly according to our outburst of emotions? Feelings and emotions are like waves dash the bank of life. Low morale is the outcome of inconsistency in relating with the other. My way or no way kills the relationship and interactions. Listening to the other is the expressive holiness we all need to carry on the work of the Lord. At times we do not listen to the cry of the other in our communities and families. When we have a feeling of knowing it all, we shut. Miscommunication is growing among us that alienates the other. Is the other person a blessing or a burden in my family, community, and workplace?
In the Gospel, Jesus invites us to pray for the servants of the Lord. “The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few.” And Jesus also added, “So ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to the harvest.” (Lk.10:2).
St. Mother Theresa encourages us to practice something for our service to the Lord. “Without a spirit of sacrifice, without a life of prayer, without an intimate attitude of penance, we would not be capable of carrying our work.”
