Our prayers are the oil for our holy life

Dear People of God,

May the Lord give you peace and health in the Holy Spirit.

It is 27th August 2021.  We celebrate the memorial of St Monica, the early African saint, and the mother of St. Augustine.  Her unceasing prayers and penance coupled with her guidance converted the wayward Augustine.  She told Augustine at her deathbed, “Son, nothing in this world now affords me delight. I do not know what there is now left for me to do or why I am still here, all my hopes in this world being now fulfilled.” Later, St. Augustine himself wrote: “For we saw that You had granted her for me, far more than she had ever dared to ask for in all her prayers and tears. You had turned her mourning into joy much more perfectly than she had ever hoped.”

Life is a single chance to live a life of purity, honesty, and nobility.  Without agility, we cannot impress someone in life.

As St. Paul encourages the people of Thessalonica to live a holy life by avoiding sinful living.  We are not far from the time of St. Paul.  We too have sexual promiscuity and unfaithfulness rampant in our culture that is revolutionary.  Infidelity, insensitivity, intolerance and lack of trust and love are on the increase between the couples.  The strangers and so-called friends invade the sacred boundaries of marriage and inflicting guilt, shame and hurt that is irreparable for the rest of the life.  The space we enjoy in social media permeates every intimate and special place of our life and exposes our vulnerability to those sexual perverts and evil people from our own families and friends.

To protect our marriage, we need to bring God back in our life not as a partner but as a priority.  Our prayers are the oil for our holy life.  May God continue to nourish our lives to be the persons God wants us to be.  God bless you.
