It is 31st October 2020.  The readings are from Philippians 1:18-26; and the Gospel from Luke 14:1, 7-11.

Saint Augustine remarks, “It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes humility as angels.”

“For me, life is Christ, and death is gain.”  We all face with freedom and choice, pride, and humility, living and dying.

There is always a room left to learn and be humble in our hearts.

Living or dying for Christ brings joy in our life.

In proclaiming Christ, there is no place for envy and division.

Do our life glory Christ?  Is our life under the influence of Him who loves and strengthens?

It is not about us always.  It is about the Lord of others.

Humble people are not born but trained.  To be humble is a personal effort of not losing ourselves to our own pride and arrogance.

Living for another is the reason and meaning of our life.

St. Paul faced with two options.  One to be with Christ or to live for the other.

The responsorial Psalm praises, “My soul is thirsting for the living God.”

In the Gospel Jesus proposes table manners and how to be humble in occupying places of honour near the host.  Selfless love focuses on the other and allows others to have the best.  Our beloved Mother Mary is icon of humility.  When God offered Her the most honour status, she chose to remain a servant, a disciple, and a slave.  “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.”  (Lk 1:38)

Serving others is the definition of humility.  St. Paul displays it by choosing to serve the other in the first reading.  A total commitment coupled with selflessness is required.  Losing ourselves, our ego, pride, and arrogance for the love of Christ is our sacrifice of humility.   May the Lord help us to be humble in all we do and say.
