Jesus the voice and the fire against any evil force

Good morning good people may the Lord give you peace, and good health. It is on 28th January

Good morning good people may the Lord give you peace, and good health.

It is on 28th January 2024. It is the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We reflect on Dt. 18:15-20; 1 Cor. 7:32-35; and Mk. 1:21-28.

The First Reading assures the original plan of God sending his beloved Son Jesus as the Prophet for his people. Christ is God’s only son, the Messiah (Acts 7:37).

God accepts the requests of Moses and withholds the fire on Mount Sinai (Ex. 19:18; Heb.12:18) and the voice of God. God promised to speak through Moses and the prophets like him.

The coming of a new prophet was fulfilled in Christ Jesus. This prophet will be from the people of Israel and like Moses. He will be the spokesperson for God’s people and the people will listen to Him. God will be the communicator through His only Son Jesus.

The Second Reading invites us not to be anxious. For Paul, living a life for the Lord is the first and best lovely thing. Paul wanted in the letter to the Corinthians that we must look forward to the Lord’s second coming and put aside all other things.

The Responsorial Psalm intones, “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” (Ps.95:8).

The Gospel brings out the power and authority of Jesus as a New Prophet and the Healer. Jesus heals a man with the unclean spirit in the synagogue. The power of Jesus was not in any mantra, the spell, the formula, the elaborate rite but in the person of Jesus. Jesus the voice and the fire against any evil force.

When we recognize the power and authority of Jesus in our lives, Jesus will deal with them accordingly. Do we recognize the power of Jesus in our daily lives? How far has your recognition helped you to deal with the unclean spirit within us and around us? May you have a blessed day.
