God’s relationship with Israel was that of a marital bond

May the Lord grant you grace, peace and health in the Holy Spirit. It is 12th August 2022. We reflect on Ezekiel 16:1-15, 60, 63 and Matthew 19:3-12.

We celebrate the memorial of St Jane de Chantel, religious.

God’s relationship with Israel was that of a marital bond. The initiative and intimate love towards Israel, even though it was left unattended, the Lord showed loved and espoused it to make it feel its worth.

As marital love takes its precedence in relating with God’s people, so God values celibate love in serving the Lord. The question arises always in such a profound and intimate relationship whether can it be ended for a reason that holds the bond anymore.

The intent of the Creator is the unity of the marriage bond. “The creator from the beginning made them male and female and that he said: This is why a man must leave father and mother, and cling to his wife, and the two become one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide.” (Mt.19:5,6). The failure to live up to the ideals of family life threatens the stability of the permanent commitment due to selfish choices. The indissolubility of marriage is the ideal to be aspired for even amidst the challenges and failures of the couples in managing family issues and communicating in relationships.

The vocation to love is not limited to marital bonding but for all of us because it is inspired by the limitless love of God.

The struggles, challenges and vicious attacks on love are on the rise even amidst the willingness, and generosity of people in love are supported and strengthened by commitment and faithfulness.

May the Lord help us to be generous in loving God and one another even with its challenges. May God bless you.
