God kept a vigil for God’s people to be redeemed from slavery in Egypt…

May the Lord give you peace and health in the Holy Spirit.

It is 17th July 2021.

We reflect on Exodus 12:37-42 and the Gospel of Matthew 12:14-21.

Life is indeed a journey.  At times so unprepared yet we need to travel a lot.  Some of our journeys are well organized, planned, and prepared. God, us, and the destination are involved in every journey. Some sort of synchronization of all three is needed to achieve the desired intention of the journey.

No one wants to embark on an aimless journey unless something else is going on in their life.

We reflect on a long journey embarked by the people of Israel.  They set off in a hurry and they had only unleavened bread.  Nearly a little more than a half-million people with their cattle, goats, and sheep on the unpaved and new excavated roads.  They walked for nearly 430 years towards the Promised Land.  The immemorable and historical event in the life of Israel.

We too have embarked on a journey to our Father’s House in Heaven.  It is a long journey indeed.  We need to be focused, creative, faithful, persevering, and keep moving until we reach our destination.  Getting stuck and fixated is limiting ourselves and become sinful.

God kept a vigil for God’s people to be redeemed from slavery in Egypt. Hence, most of the celebration of the people of Israel was in the night remembering and thanking God for all that God did to God’s people.  “That same night is a vigil to be kept for the Lord by all the Israelites throughout their generations.” (Ex.12:42).

The Egyptians wanted to kill the people on the way, but God continued protecting them all evil and selfish people.

Jesus is presented as the suffering Servant of the Lord.  We do not believe for ourselves only, we believe to live and live a life that comforts, heals, helps, and harmonize and harness the values of humanity in every sense.

Anyone can plot and plan against our desired journey to God and to one another, but we need to reemphasize the presence of God amidst us in the most uncomfortable and unacceptable forms, names, and persons.   “Crushed reeds and smouldering wicks” are among us who need to be nurtured, safeguarded, and protected by us as Jesus did.

May the Lord bless all our journeys whether it is for spiritual welfare or for worldly pleasure to meet and mingle with others to revere God’s presence in our journey. Have a safe journey.
