It is 27th January 2015. The Readings are from Heb.10:1-10 and the Gospel from Mk. 3:31-35. We have the memorial of St. Angela Merici, the Virgin. She belongs to the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. She was miraculously healed from her blindness which occurred during her visit to the Holy land. She founded a lay women group called Company of St. Ursula to look after the young girls. The first reading reminds us that our consecration comes by doing the will of God. It is the obedience to the Lord which is the true sacrifice, not any other type of sacrifices pleases the Lord. Jesus became Christ by just doing the will of the Father. “Not my will be done but yours.” (Mt. 26:39). Our Mother Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be done according your word.” (Lk.1:38). We too read in Hosea 6:6, “ For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God, rather than burnt offerings.” It is the listening ear and heart that is what the Lord is looking for. All our blessings on earth comes through this obedience, this type of listening to God and doing the will of God. The Responsorial Psalm (40:8a&9a) repeats, “Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.” The Gospel highlights Mother Mary as the model for doing the will of God. Jesus repeatedly telling Mary and Joseph from the start that He is around in the world to do the will of Father. “Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mk3:35) We all can become the spiritual family members of Jesus only when we do the will of the Father. May God bless you. Have a blessed day.
