It is 13th October 2015. The readings are from Rom. 1:16-25 and the Gospel from Lk.11:37-41. The first reading reminds us that we must not be ashamed of our faith in a loving God. Faith according to Paul is the total trust, the confident hope, free gift and unshakable faithfulness in one God. God becomes angry when we ignore God and give importance to the worldly philosophy. God does not condone or tolerate sins. “Since they have given up divine truth for a lie and have worshipped and served creatures instead of the creator, who is blessed for ever.” (Rom.1:25). The responsorial Psalm praises, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.” (Ps.18:2). The Gospel points out to us that true worship means something to do with the interior cleanliness, pure intention and unbiased charity. At times, we too give so much importance to ceremonial things and forgetting the spiritual renewal. We do not need to worship God with meaningless practices and neglecting the interior preparedness and cleanliness. Our worship must affect our spiritual well-being and eventually lead us to have change within. Outward and pharisaic practices do not help us anyway to meet Jesus. We experience the change through charity towards the other and faith in Jesus. “Give alms from what you have and then indeed everything will be clean for you.” (Lk.11:41). Charity is the life and heart of the religion. May the Lord help us to offer our very selves for those who are less fortunate than us. May God give you peace.
