It is 31st October 2015. The readings are from Rom. 11:1-2a,11-12, 25-29 and the Gospel from Lk.14:1,7-11. In the first reading, St. Paul wants to convince us categorically that God never rejects God’s people. God’s fidelity is unquestionable. God saves God’s people individually. Salvation of the soul belongs to God; it is personal and specific. “God never takes back His gifts or revokes His choice.” (Rom.11:29). Our salvation is only in accepting God’s only Son Jesus Christ not through any other means. God has given us Jesus as a gift for our personal salvation and God has chosen us to love God, to serve God, to worship God and to be with God through Jesus. It is through the mercy of God, we are saved. It is up to us individually to decide for God or against God. The responsorial Psalm promises us, “The Lord will not abandon his people.” (Ps.93:14). The Gospel recommends us to reflect about our rightful place in front of God. God calls us to God’s banquet daily. God’s invitation to us is undeserved grace. When we truly recognize our inner disposition to God, we will not choose the best positions. What we have in ourselves is our personal sins. To realise that itself is indeed humility which helps us to choose the rightful place in front of God. “For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Lk.14:11).
