It is 30th December 2015. The readings are from 1 John 2:12-17 and the Gospel from Luke 2:36-40. The first reading reminds us to be faithful to God and to live according to the will and plan of God. There is a powerful attraction to this worldly things which leads us to “the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride in riches.” (1Jn.2:16). In order to do the will of God, we need keep a mature distance to the worldly attractions and restlessness. By time, the elders have a better experience of God through their personal encounter with God and understanding the realities of lives. A world that alienates God ferments the evil in our minds through various ways during the different stages of our maturity. The children, the young and the elderly are need to discover God’s plan for them every moment of their lives and beware of the alluring attractions of the world. The responsorial Psalm praises God, “Let the heavens rejoices and earth be glad.” (Ps.95:11). The Gospel points out that the elderly prophetess Anna recognised the Messiah amidst so many people. It is the time for us all to recognise Jesus in the manger, the poor dwelling place in our lives. We must not be dejected when the sins of the world strangles and chokes our spiritual welfare. In this congestion of sins, we have to recourse to God and recognise God’s presence in our inner temples. Let us be a humble enough to discern and obey the will of God. May you have a good day.
