It is 07th February 2016. We are in the Fifth Sunday of the Ordinary Time. The readings are from Isaiah 6:1-8; 1Corinthians 15:1-11; and the Gospel from Luke 5:1-11. Our fruitfulness in being and living culminates only in God. The first reading invites us to accept the offer from God to be a messenger. Can we say like Isaiah, “Here I am, send me, Lord.” (Is.6:8). Acknowledging our unworthiness to such a challenging call of God is the criteria for appropriate response. God meets us, purifies us before the embarking. The responsorial Psalm praises, “In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord.” (Ps.138:8). The second reading encourages us to believe in the unconditional love of God. “By the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me has not been ineffective.” (1 Cor.15:10). When we begin to feel our unworthiness, we feel the need for the divine assistance. We receive so much in love, so it is our turn to give in love. There is a compulsion to share when we are soaked in the love of God. No way do we keep it for ourselves, when we have encountered and enshrined by God’s love. The Gospel leads us to witness the confession of Peter’s sinfulness and due acknowledgment of divinity of Jesus. As St. Peter, we know our profession, our career and our skills. We think that we are the masters our destiny. At times, things do not work that way; we begin to feel the tightness in the rope we hold is growing day by day and at the verge of breaking. We will come to know that what we believed in does not solve all the challenges we face. We need someone greater than what we held in our lives. We all need Jesus in our lives to catch a better catch for God. Leaning on God means weaning out of sinful lives. Let us depart from material addiction to human connections. Have a good day.
