It is 29th January 2018. The readings are from 2 Samuel 15:13-14, 30, 16:5-13; and the Gospel from Mark 5:1-20. Dealing with the insults is indeed a blessing from the Lord. Unless we seek a spiritual perspective to all the insults we are facing, we can surely become bitter in our lives and make the environment unbearable. The first reading presents a situation in the life of David. David’s son Absalom rebelled against David by his evil ways of grabbing the minds of people in order to come to power. People swung like a pendulum as they are praised, bribed, cajoled, and promised by those who like to come to power. One of the relatives of Saul’s family insulted David. Instead of allowing those around David to get rid of him, David submitted himself to the Lord. “Let him curse on if the Lord has told him to. It may be that the Lord will look on my distress, and the Lord will repay me with good for this cursing of me today.” (2 Sam.15:12). The responsorial Psalm prays, “Arise, Lord; save me, my God.” In the Gospel, having cast out the demon out of man, the people insulted Jesus by telling him to move out of their city by placing valuing their pigs over a person. Whenever we are insulted by others, may we approach it with the spirit of humility and prayer than reason and power. May you have a good day. May God bless you.
