It is 7th October 2019. We celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Catechism teaches us in No, 2679, “Mary is the perfect prayer, a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends his Son to save all people. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus’ mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. the prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.” May we truly be sincere to recite one rosary a day with meditation and contemplation of the mysteries of our salvation. Rosary is the powerful spiritual tool, a garland of roses and the pearls from the Scripture remains as a biblical form of prayer. Readings of the day suggest that doing good is not a choice as a believer but it is obligation as a human being. In the first reading, Jonah wanted to run away from God and to do his own thing. Yet God confronted him to do what God wanted to do. What does God want us to do today? Are we running away from the responsibilities of sharing the message of love, mercy and hope because we have better things to do? Christianity through the new command of love has become the most profound answer to innumerable questions of selfish and clueless humanity. However, scared and scrupulous we become; we cannot run away doing the will of God. The story of Jonah is the symbol of Baptism every believer has to go through by dying and rising with the Risen Lord. The responsorial Psalm praises, “You lifted my life from the pit, O Lord.” (Jonah 2:7). The Gospel presents us with the story of Good Samaritan clarifying who is the neighbour we all need to handle with care. When we have the authentic and uncontaminated love, we surely can go out to serve. The extraordinary missionary month is the moment to display our goodness and mercy to those who are brutally abused by the selfishly cruel claws of the society. The Lord and the Church are looking for people who would show the type of pity, mercy, and compassion to the others. Caring for the others is the will of God for every believer. Neighbour is found in our marriage, family, community and the work places. Human happiness remains an ideology in the absence of loving God and the others. The evangelisation without love is futile, wordy, noisy and empty. Love does not make noise when it performs. There are so many wounded by the evil people lying on the senselessly selfish roads our daily use. May we never run short of the oil of mercy and wine of love for those in need. We all have a good Samaritan within each one of us. Let us bring him out in our faith encounters. May you have a good day. God bless you.
