It is 25th January 2015. The 3rd Sunday of the Ordinary time. It is the Sunday of Prayer for Peace. The Readings are from Jonah 3:1-5,10; 1Cor.7:29-31; and the Gospel from Mk. 1:14-20. The first reading describes that peace comes to people of God through the change of heart and mind. The response of the people at the preaching of Jonah brought about peace for the town. Personal conversion brings peace. The Responsorial Psalm invites us to tell, “teach me your ways, O Lord.” (Ps25:4a). In the second reading, St. Paul explains that we need to accept the Good News in order to be converted. Sexual morality in the Sacramental Marriage brings peace for the family. Everything is disappearing except the values of love, freedom and justice. These values are the ones brings peace in our lives. The Gospel proclaims that Jesus calls us for repentance. Peace comes through responding the call of Jesus for repentance. The call of first disciples brought so much peace for themselves. After all, it is the personal and intimate response, we make to God on a daily basis brings peace to our hearts, families and communities. Bringing people to justice of God is called fishing for people. Fishing for people is a process of leading the other persons from darkness to light, from peacelessness to peace, from emptiness to abundance. Peace is indeed a free gift of God. Peace arrives us when God is pleased with our response. In order to enjoy peace, one needs to change the attitude, perception, prejudices and stereotype mentalities. Peace does not come through external forces rather it is internal soul stamina which brings lasting peace. Jesus is the author and giver of peace in our lives. Without a new and renewed commitment and relationship with Jesus, it will be impossible to enjoy peace. We need to do something spiritually so as to experience and expound the feathers of peace. A new relationship with God brings the peace our hearts are looking for. May the Lord grant us peace because we are willing to change. Have a good day.
