It is 31st January 2015. The Readings are Heb. 11:1-2,8-19 and the Gospel from Mk. 4:35-41. We celebrate the memorial of St. John Bosco, the Priest. He is the founder of the Salesians, who dedicated his entire life to serve poor orphans, to educate street children and juvenile delinquents. He was called the Father and Teacher of youth. He was canonized in 1934. The first reading presents the importance of faith in God in our lives. “Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” (Heb.11:1). Faith does not add knowledge but certainty and surety in the things we hope for. Faith helps us to lead beyond the ordinary. Faith tests every human person and leads to the planned destination of God. Faith in God propels in us a divine power to do things like Abraham and Sarah. God demands faith from his every believer in order to achieve God’s plan. Faith leads us to humanly impossible situation and makes it happen. Faith is a human surrender in the invisible God. Faith leads us from darkness, ignorance, and nomadic life to light, certainty and home land of God. Faith is a human endeavour to believe in God and His words. The Responsorial Psalm calls out, “Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, He has come to his people.” (Lk.1:68). The Gospel invites us to ask a question when things get difficult in our lives, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith? The disciples were with Jesus yet they underestimated the power of Jesus. The unexpected storms are sure to happen in our lives when we have Jesus in our boats. Either we think God is no longer interested in our struggles or we place our trust in him completely to put out the storms in our lives. Faith subsides any type of storm in human lives. Let us have such faith to reach the shores of Heaven one day. May God bless you. Have a blessed day.
