It is 03rd February 2015. The Readings are from Heb.12:1-4 and the Gospel from Mk.5:21-43. We have the memorial of St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr. A Physician of body became the physician of the soul. He refused to worship false gods. As a result, he was scourged, torn with hooks and beheaded. He is the patron saint of the wild animals and interceded for throat diseases. The first reading glorifies the example of Jesus in his perseverance and asking us to follow Him. Christian life is like a running race towards a destination. When we are focused on Jesus, the running becomes meaningful and easy. If we divert our attention from Jesus, we face many hurdles in this race. It is difficult to notice in us that we have fought a battle against sin consistently even to the extend of losing our lives. “In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” (Heb. 12:4). Jesus is our example and model to emulate in dealing with our sins when we are faced with sufferings and despondency or discouragements. The Responsorial Psalm sings, “They will praise you, Lord, those who seek you.” (Ps.22:27b). The Gospel offers the account of Jesus giving life to daughter of Jairus and a healing of a woman who touched Jesus. The touch of Jesus is needed for someone to come to life or some other person to be healed of particular physical ailments. Whether we are dead inside due to our personal sin, or bruised by a physical illness, Jesus has the power and the authority to heal us and grant us wholeness. Our perseverance and faith in Him surely rewards us with the healing we need. Have a good day.
