It is 11th August 2015. We celebrate the memorial of St. Clare, Virgin. The readings are from Deut.31:1-8 and the Gospel from Mt.18:1-5, 10, 12-14. The first reading presents the imminent death of Moses at the age of 120. Even though he was the lawgiver, the greatest prophet of Israel, and the organiser of the constitution, He did not want to hold on to lead people towards the Promise Land until his death. Moses called all the priests, the elders and the people together to hand over his authority to his successor, Joshua. Moses trained him and encouraged him to lead people. Every leader needs to do the will of God and the good of the people. “Be strong, stand firm, have no fear of them, no terror, for the Lord your God is going with you; God will not fail you or forsake you.” (Deut. 31:6). The responsorial Psalm prays, “The Lord’s portion was his people.”(Ps.32:9). The Gospel brings out the loving care of our Heavenly Father. Greatness comes in being little like the child. We must never be a stumbling block for anyone more particularly to the little ones. God is presented as the leader who goes after the lost little ones. Leaving the majority and looking for that lost one is the magnificent love of God. “So it is not the will of your Father in Heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.” (Mt.18:14). Let us not hold on to power, authority and positions and losing people in the desert. We need to bring out the character of the Heavenly Father in caring for people while we lead. God is sad and angry when God’s people are suffering and lost. May the Lord bring out your greatness in your humble demonstrations of goodness for others. May the Lord truly bless you and have a good day.
