It is 17th September 2015. We celebrate the memorial of St. Robert Bellarmine, the Bishop and the Doctor of the Church. The readings are from 1 Tim.4:12-16 and the Gospel from Lk.7:36-50. The first reading brings out the deep relationship of Paul and Timothy. Paul loved and had very special place for Timothy from the time he met him in Lystra. Timothy had intelligence, religious sincerity, and fluency in Greek and Hebrew. St. Paul urging Timothy to have affection, loyalty and purity in his teaching and behaving. As a believer we too imbibe the spirit of Timothy to be the best instrument for God. The Responsorial Psalm chants, “Great are the works of the Lord.” (Ps.110:2). The Gospel imparts in us that Faith fills us with love and makes us to be personally committed. “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (Lk.7:50). By our faith in the Lord Jesus, we are given forgiveness of sins. A sincere and loving heart always wants to meet Jesus in humility. The lady in the Gospel is an example for all us. When we are with Jesus, we do not need to worry about who is watching us and what are they thinking about us. A total surrender to Jesus offers us the contentment of the soul and being. Our gratefulness coupled with the acts of love and generosity to Jesus matters in dealing with our sins. If and when we feel, we are sinful, we need to love and believe that Jesus forgives our sins no matter how heavy, ugly and dirty they could be. May God forgive our sins through the faith and love we have for Jesus. Have a good day.
