It is 10th October 2015. The readings are from Joel 3:12-21 and the Gospel from Lk.11:27-28. The first reading brings out the horror, punishment and rewards of the day of Judgement of the Lord. We will be all gathered in the Valley of Jehoshaphat which means Yahweh judges. The prophet warns us to repent and to do away with our complacency with God. The evil of the world will come to an end by the rule of God. Forgiveness is a sure gift for those who repent and call on God. Everyone will come under God’s judgement. All those who are hostile to God will be punished by God. “I will avenge their blood and let none go unpunished.” (Joel 4:21). God will restore its original beauty with the fountain flowing from God’s temple symbolically revitalizing the spiritual fertility of God’s people. The restoration will include holiness, peace, prosperity and joy for all those who love and fear the Lord. The responsorial Psalm prays, “Rejoice, you just, in the Lord.” (Ps.96:12). The Gospel applauds Mary, mother of Jesus. When a lady began to appreciate the mother of Jesus as she listened to Jesus. But Jesus praises His mother Mary all the more saying that His mother is much more blessed because Mary heeded the word of God. “Still happier those who hear the Word of God and keep it.” (Lk.11:28). Mother Mary not only heard the Word of God and She treasured it in her heart. All praises and honour we offer to our mother Mary is due and praiseworthy. May God give you peace.
