It is 05th May 2016. The readings are from Acts 18:1-8; and the Gospel from John 16:16-20. The first reading presents the hard work of St. Paul in the city of Corinth. Even though the ministry in Athens was a failure due to the hard heartedness of the people. The apostle did not give in and he preached several times to persuade the people about Jesus as the Christ. He preached on Sundays and all through the week, he supported his ministry through his hard work along with his hard working friends namely Aquila and Priscilla who were involved in tent making. Even in Corinth, the people insulted St. Paul yet he preached the Word of God untiringly. The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord has shown his salvation to the nations. The Gospel describes how Jesus was preparing His disciples for His ascension. They need to face the physical absence of Jesus and to face the world with the faith in the Risen Lord who promised to be with them until the end of time. “In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you will see me again.” (Jn.16:16). Jesus is the only reason for our proclamation. The joy of Gospel is in its proclamation through our word and deed. May the Risen Lord Jesus bless us to boldly bear witness to the Gospels. Have a good day.
