It is 02nd December 2016. We celebrate the first Friday dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. We must approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation and thereafter to receive the Holy Communion. The readings are from Isaiah 29:17-24; and the Gospel from Matthew 9:27-31. The first reading instils hope in each one of us by highlighting the rule of Christ characterised by joy, understanding, justice, peace and praise to God which will be completely different from every earthly ruler. The total spiritual revolution during the messianic time is going to happen when the Messiah is visiting His people. Our fruitfulness is to recognise and accommodate the Word of God in our lives. The muteness and blindness whether spiritual or physical would be healed by the presence of the Great One of God. The healing presence of God will reverse the order of the world spiritually, economically, politically and socially. The poor will have their place of dignity and honour will open their lives to God while the proud, the rich, the mighty will be blind and deaf to the Word of God and eventually refuse to listen to the Word of God. But God will heal their deafness and blindness too and will obey God. “And those who are wayward in spirit will come to understanding, and those who complain will accept instruction.” (Is.29:24). The Responsorial Psalm sings, “The Lord is my light and my help.” (Ps.26:1). The Gospel teaches us that faith in the healing power of Jesus Christ is the basic requisite for any healing. Jesus tested the persons with the blindness before offering the healing. Jesus asked, “Do you believe that I am able to do this? Yes, Lord, they replied. He touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith will it be done to you.” (Mt. 9: 28,29). The two men went in search of Jesus because they believed that Jesus could heal them. They were persistent in their request. Without doubt and question in our minds, when we believe that our God is able to do this or that for us, we are offered by God what we desire. If Jesus is questioning us in anyway, He is just testing how strong we are in our faith commitments. Without faith there is no healing. May the Lord bless you to have a good day.
