It is 23rd July 2018. We celebrate the memorial of St Bridget of Sweden, Religious. She is a patroness of Europe. The readings are from Micah 6:1-4, 6-8 and the Gospel from Mt. 12:38-42. Some of us are more enthusiastic before receiving the Sacraments of salvation than now. We begin to ignore God and tend to forget God even though God does not demand anything from us except our faithfulness and self-surrender to God. God expects us to live in humility, love, and justice. When God has become burden to us, we must know that we are living and hiding from a grave sin that is making us to feel God as the obstacle. Something spiritually is not going right in our lives, when God has become the burden for us. In the first reading, the prophet Micah insists that God is not impressed by human cults and customs rather sincere ethical living that benefits all. God cannot be appeased with any sacrifice except our change of heart. True and authentic religion is not based on religious practices and pompous celebrations rather it is basic quest for God in loving, serving and practicing justice with every human person. God accuses God’s people in the first reading and expressing God’s wish for every human person. “My people, what have I done to you, how have I been a burden to you? Answer me.” (Micah 6:3). The responsorial Psalm praises, “I will show God’s salvation to the upright.” (Ps.49:23). The Gospel teaches us that Jesus is the only hope for this generation. Jesus is the only way out for those who have lost the way to God and beginning to feel God as burden. Are we expecting a lot from God and get frustrated with God? Are we looking for miracles than mercy; Signs than Saviour? We need to base our lives in the Wisdom of the Father than the wisdom of the world. Looking for something for human satisfaction will not take us anywhere. Rather let us search for the Lord, walk with the Lord in humility and justice and show tender and warm love to all human persons. May we find solace and strength in the crucified Saviour always. For God, we are not a burden rather the supreme blessing to God. What and who made us feel God as the burden for us? Let us introspect individual and give the answer to the Lord before we end this day. May you have a good day. God bless you.
