We reflect on Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12 and the Gospel of John 2:13-22.
We celebrate the feast day of Dedication of the Lateran Basilica which is dedicated to the Most Holy Saviour and St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist. It is the “Most Holy Lateran Church, of all the churches in the city and the world, the mother and head” (from an inscription on the front wall of the church). It is the Cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the Pontiff. By celebrating its dedication, we celebrate the dedication of our own local churches also for they are all joined together. We are united with one another with the sanctuary of the Lord.
Every place needs regular cleaning especially places of worship and community gathering places. Uncleansed church or community hall is the symbol of disunity and lack of love with respect. We, the people of God are the temple as we believe in the temple of Christ’s Body.
Our community is the resourceful presence of our faith. We all celebrate our unity and love in the company and community right from the beginning. Even though the existing churches cater for us for worship and meeting with one another, we are to meet the hearts and lives of people. “Wherever two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.” There is a serious need to clean our churches, our bodies, the temple of the Holy Spirit from worldly attachments, narrow-mindedness, religious fanaticism, discrimination, indifference, indecency and corruption of values and ideals of our Christian living.
