May the Lord give you peace and blessings.

It is 10th June 2025.

Today we reflect on 2 Corinthians 1:18–22 and Matthew 5:13–16.

St. Paul reminds us of God’s unwavering faithfulness.  We, who follow the God of “Yes,” must never bow to the gods of “no”—the gods of doubt, despair, and discouragement.  God counts on our ‘yes’ as He counted on Mother Mary and other saints.

Pope Francis, in Happiness in This Life, writes: “Joy is the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  It is the yeast that leavens society as a whole.”

The Responsorial Psalm lifts our plea:

“Save me, Lord, I take refuge in you.” (Psalm 16:1)

In the Gospel, Jesus challenges us not merely to interpret God’s commandments, but to live them—to embody them so fully that we inspire others.  This is not a faith of words alone; it is a faith of living light and salty love.

Jesus gives us a countercultural manifesto in the Beatitudes.  Then He commands us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Salt preserves, heals, and adds flavour.  So must we—through love, care, and compassion.  When we lose the flavour of God, we lose sensitivity to others and become bland, invisible, and unfruitful.

If we fail in our mission—if we neglect our duty as believers—we become like flavourless salt and hidden light: present, but purposeless.

A young girl once lit a candle in front of the Blessed Sacrament during a power cut in her village chapel.  The tiny flame danced in the darkness.  Soon, one by one, people lit their own candles from hers.  The room brightened with warmth.

One light had sparked many.  That’s all it took.

You, too, may be just one flame.  But a flame that shares itself never dims—it only multiplies.

Trusting in God’s care leads us to do even the daring—the holy “darn” things we would not otherwise do.

Love is the salt of life; charity is its taste.  If love grows cold, life loses meaning.

If you can add flavour to your community—through your perspective, kindness, prayer, and perseverance—you are the churn, the change, the difference that Christ longs for.

To be salt and light is not a favour we do for God.  It is our dignity, identity, mission, and destiny.

As Revelation 3:15 warns:

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I wish you were either one or the other.”

Can your light reflect God and dispel ignorance?  Can your love cut through apathy?

We are made to shine.  We are born to reflect Christ.

So, may we carry the warmth of God in our aura, and the fragrance of Christ in our spiritual life.

Let nothing hide the light that Christ has placed within us.

Let us stand up for God, stand firm for Christ, and take a bold stand against evil.  For as Jesus says:

“Whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19)

May the Lord bless us, keep us faithful, and make us forever salt and light.  Amen.
