Whatever the repressed and resisting situation we are in, there is something good that will come out in our life or in another

May the Lord bless you with peace and health in the Holy Spirit.

It is 30th November 2021.

We reflect on Romans 11:1-2, 11-12, 25-29 and the Gospel of Luke 14:1, 7-11.

“For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” (Rom.11:29).

St. Paul points out something so significant about the way Jews rejected Christ and that paved the way for the salvation of the others.  God has the power to extract goodness even in a bitterly painful and frustrating moment.  Because when God calls us and endows us with spiritual gifts, God does not recall them.  It is our actions and choices that make the vocation and gifts of the Holy Spirit under question.  Never God backs of God’s choices and decisions.  God is beyond human comprehension, reason, and logic.  God never reduced God’s love, mercy, and forgiveness even when we have chosen to be resistant and rebellious.

Whatever the repressed and resisting situation we are in, there is something good that will come out in our life or in another.  It is not good to rush to have the rash decisions and leave God rather we need to see the bigger options and picture that God wants to bring out.

Without humility, we cannot attain this state of mind.  Licking the foot of the other and playing the second fiddle are not expressions of humility.  It is the humble acceptance of the plan and will with a strong belief that everything God has for us is for our good.  Hard to accept the stance but believing it makes it easier.  Jesus reminds us again today that greatness comes by serving not by savouring and boasting of what we can do.  “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Lk.14:11). Status is temporary and appealing, but service is permanent and rewarding.  True humility is the appreciation of our call and gifts and putting them to the best use of humanity.  May God continue to help us to be humble before God in order to be at the service of suffering humanity.  God bless you.
