It is 29th December 2020. We celebrate the memorial of Saint Thomas Becket.
The readings are from 1 John 2:3-11 and the Gospel from Luke 2:22-35.
Light and love within us comes from God. It is our ardent responsibility to show it and share it with others. The more we share, more we shine and overflow with the love of God.
To shine and love continuously, we need to adhere the Word of God constantly. Otherwise, some actions, behaviours and words from others or the non-responsiveness from other person could lead us to darkness. To live meaningfully and fruitfully we need to allow the light of Christ and love of God to flow without any hurdles. “Whoever says, ‘I am in the light,’ while hating a brother or sister, is still in the darkness.” (1 Jn.2:9).
Failure to love and spread the light of Christ is a visible contradiction of our faith in new-born Jesus.
The responsorial Psalm praises, “Let heaven and earth exult in joy!” (Ps.96:11).
The presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple sheds light on our belief of having blessed by the elders, and older members of our families and communities. The parental love is not sufficient for the growth of the child. The guidance, blessings, and counsel from them is so crucial for the parents as well as the children in our family. It is time to listen and learn from the elders in our families and communities. These days, so many parents lag in presenting their children to God right from the start. Most of the children are forced to spend more time with their schoolbooks than with the Book; and taken to so many places for acquiring skills but less time spent in the Church or Church activities. Every family need to allow the children to grow integrally keeping God at the centre of all activities. May God bless our families to love and spread the love of Christ in each situation. Have a lovely day. God bless you.
