It is 21st September 2020.
We celebrate the Feast of St Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist.
The readings are from Ephesians 4:1-7; and the Gospel from Matthew 9:9-13.
To follow Jesus we need to hallow ourselves.
Self-emptying is the first thing we all need to do to follow the Lord in honesty and generosity.
We are all called by the Lord. If we do not respond with respect along with our repository of gifts, and talents, we might not value the vocation we have received.
St. Paul invites us to respond to the call in humility and maturity.
“Live the vocation you have received. Be humble, kind, patient, and bear with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of spirit through bonds of peace.” (Eph.4:1-3).
The responsorial Psalm praises, “Their span extends through all the earth.” (Ps.19:
The Gospel presents us with the call of Matthew and his generous response to Christ.
The passage of the Gospel highlights the purpose of our call.
God is not looking for saints but people with love and mercy.
“What I want is mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinner.” (Mt.9:13).
To prioritize our life we need to offer the importance to our vocation than our careers.
Whenever the careers overtake and suppress the sanctity of our vocation, we end up valuing the careers as the way out and the way forward in life.
Unless and until we follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, we cannot hear the call to heal ourselves.
May we inspire by the world by our dedication and commitment like that of St. Matthew.
Have a lovely day. God bless you.
