May the Lord bless with peace and health in the Holy Spirit.
It is on 15th September 2021.
We reflect on Hebrews 5:7-9 and the Gospel of John 19:25-27 or Luke 2:33-35.
We celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. It is the celebration that is linked to the Cross of our Lord where Mother Mary stood by Jesus as He was dying. No one can put it in black and white the pain and grief the Mother went through.
Our Mother Mary left some valuable lessons for our life by facing the suffering without running away. Whenever we are not able to bear the suffering, the first thing we do is to run away or try hiding from the suffering unfolding in front of us. Facing suffering is indeed grace from God. Again, accompanying our children when they are suffering and challenged by the tides of life rather than protecting them so narcissistically and making them weak and broken even more. Even as the Mother of God, She had to go through all the pain and suffering. No safe passage for her just because She was the Mother of Jesus.
At times, we too need to accept the sufferings, loss and pain that come along the way in our life without complaining and condemning God and fellow brethren.
By our efforts to be near Jesus, we can handle anything that troubles and pulls us down. Though the seven sorrows of Mary are closely associated scripturally, She underwent an untold volume of suffering and pain without attracting much attention.
The Pieta, the grieving Mother as She stood by Her Only Son Jesus, stands by us and interceding for us to the Lord. Jesus is ‘destined to be a sign that is rejected and, as for Mary, a sword will pierce your own soul too.’ Let us be assured that we are not alone when we face and go through suffering, pain, sickness, and loss. Our Mother Mary is with us to help us face it with the power of Jesus.
Have a peaceful day. God bless you.
