Good morning good people,
May the Lord give you peace and blessings. It is 22nd May 2025. We reflect on Acts 15:7–21 & John 15:9–11.
St. Rita of Cascia illumines our path today: “Be brave! Nothing can replace the joy that comes from doing the will of God.”
The first reading recounts the historic gathering of the first council of the Church in Jerusalem—a model for all ecclesial dialogue and discernment. It is a masterpiece of spiritual democracy, where each participant freely expressed their views with respect and without conflict. After listening attentively to all sides, the Apostles, guided by the Holy Spirit, affirmed a foundational truth: salvation comes through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, not merely through the observance of the Law.
This marked a pivotal moment in Church history. The early Church began to distinguish itself from its Jewish roots, embracing a new covenant shaped by grace, faith, and the Spirit. It was a turning point—a courageous step into a broader mission field, especially among the Gentiles. From this moment onward in the Acts of the Apostles, the spotlight shifts to the dynamic ministry of St. Paul.
We are reminded today that the Church still flourishes when we speak boldly yet listen humbly, honouring both the Spirit’s promptings and the guidance of our leaders. An openness to the Holy Spirit, coupled with a humility to follow His lead through the Church, is how we grow into a truly witnessing Church.
The Responsorial Psalm invites us to join the universal song of praise: “Proclaim the wonders of the Lord among all the peoples.” (Ps 95:3)
In the Gospel, Jesus offers us the secret of Christian joy: loving Him with fidelity and dwelling in His word. His joy, born through the Cross, becomes our joy. To love like Christ is not easy—but our continuous listening to His word transforms our hearts. True joy is not in fleeting feelings but in the abiding presence of Jesus in our lives.
“So that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete.” (John 15:11).
Like St. Rita, may we be brave in our love, humble in our obedience, and joyful in our witness.
May the Lord bless you and keep you always in His peace.
