May the Lord bless you with peace and health in the Holy Spirit.
It is 19th October 2021.
We celebrate the memorial of St. Paul of the Cross, mystic, and founder of the Passionists.
We reflect on Romans 5:12, 15, 17-21 and the Gospel of Luke 6:12-18.
Sin enters our life when it is empty of faith and love. Sin does not require a formal invitation, yet it enjoys being there even we cannot stand its presence and power. Sin is pervasive; personally, devasting and communally contaminating. Sin and sinfulness attract and associate with each other so friendly. Sin gathers momentum in life by time and rapidity.
Sin and selfishness are contagious. Sin brings shame to a person and shatters hope of coming back to God. Sin shrinks our souls; shatters hope and stunts our spiritual growth. Sin is the uninvited guest in our being and always claims a portion that belongs to God exclusively. Sin covets happiness and peace that is poured into our heart by the life of grace.
At times, we all think we got rid of sin that was repeatedly making us feel empty, shameful, and guilty for a while, and even before we relish happiness and relaxing moments, we smell the sin near our body, and hear the roaring of its arrogance, and feel the disgusting presence right near our souls.
“Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom.5:21).
Yet sin cannot rule and ruin our life. Sin does not have the last opinion over anything in our life. Though the devastation is not seen immediately it immerses humanity by time.
“Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return.” (Lk.12:35). Being alert at the service of the Lord grants us the opportunities to enjoy the grace and blessings of the Lord. It is not one particular prayer, and penance alone would help us to get rid of the traces and impact of sin, but a constant awareness of the presence and power of the life-giving Sacraments and the Scripture empowers us to be ready to attend to the master of the house. Honouring and hosting the present moments to the fullest of our ability, we take care of all that makes us weak and break because of the blows of sin. Christ and His uninterpreted grace are enough to deal with any sin or stinking smell of sinful situations with His fragrance of love and mercy. May the Lord continue to bless each one of us to believe that we are endowed with graces to deal with the sins we are facing in our life. God bless you all.
