Good morning, Good People,
May the Lord give you peace, health, and blessings in the Holy Spirit.
It is 09th September 2025. We celebrate the memorial of St. Peter Claver, a provider and protector of those who were slaves in his time.
St. Peter Claver rooted his life in Christ through his service to the slaves. When the slave ships arrived in Cartagena, Colombia, filled with suffering people, Peter Claver would rush to the docks with food, medicine, and clothes. He would climb into the stinking holds, cradle the sick, and baptize thousands, calling himself forever “the slave of the slaves.” He once said: “We must speak to them with our hands before we try to speak to them with our lips.”
We reflect on Col 2:6-15; Ps 145:1-2, 8-11; and Lk 6:12-19.
Are we rooted in Christ or routed by ideologies?
Stephen R. Covey, author of the 8th Habit and First Things First, once said: “Life isn’t about accumulation. It’s about contribution.”
St. Paul, in the first reading, reminds us that Christians must make up their minds to follow Christ consistently, for we are reconciled and raised to a new life in Him through the power of God. To be rooted in Christ is to be firm in faith and filled with gratitude. Christ is our reference point, our focus, and our direction in making decisions.
Yet false and strange philosophies are mushrooming everywhere in our time. We are called to resist them and hold fast to the values of the Gospel and the Cross of Christ.
Discernment and decision-making are crucial for a radical response to the call of Jesus. Personal prayer gives clarity in the cloudy moments of decision. The Gospel shows us that when Jesus chose the Twelve for His ministry, He first spent the whole night in prayer. All life-changing choices and moments require intense prayer.
May the Lord give you courage to decide in favour of God and the Gospel, and to root your life in Christ just as St. Peter Claver did.
