It is 25th November 2020. We celebrate the memorial of St Catherine of Alexandria, virgin and martyr.
The readings are from Revelation 15:1-4; and the Gospel from Luke 21:12-19.
We are strengthened in faith and faithfulness during adversity than prosperity. In his riches, man lacks wisdom. (Ps.49:20).
Our quality of our character is tested during the times of suffering, persecution, and pain. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth.” (Rom. 1:18).
The first reading is the record of those who were persecuted for their faith. The Word of God offered them strength, hope and encouragement to endure persistently. Where do we stand when it comes to face the pain and suffering for Christ? It is by endurance; we express the authentic love for Christ and the Church. Joy is the outcome of endurance coupled with peace. We all strive to live a life that is recognisable by God at the end.
The responsorial Psalm praise, “Great and wonderful are all your works; Lord, mighty God.” (Rev. 15:3).
The Gospel invites us to endure all that in our life for the love of the one that has brought us closer to God. “By your endurance you will gain your souls.” (Lk.21:19). Retaliation does not help us to have our life. As a believer and follower of Jesus, we will be surely persecuted, and abused on account of our faith, we need to stand up for Jesus and never be a coward. Many will hate us, drag us to courts and put us even in prison for the sake of Jesus. “But not a hair of your head will perish.” (Lk.21:19). Once we lose hope, we cannot endure anyone. May we ask the Lord to hold on when we are tested for our faith. Have a lovely day. God bless you.
