We reflect on Galatians 3:1-5 and Luke 11:5-13.
Have we done our duty before we submit in prayer?
A disciple came riding on his donkey to the tent of his Sufi Master. He dismounted and walked right into the tent, bowed low and said, “So great is my trust in God that I have left my donkey outside untied, convinced that God protects the interests of those who love him.” The Master chided him: “Go and tie the donkey first.” He continued: “God cannot be bothered doing for you what you are perfectly capable of doing for yourself.”
In the first reading, St. Paul reminds the Galatians that their faith is to be inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit always.
We need to grow above the surface of being a nominal Christian to witnessing Christians.
The Spirit of God dwells in us because our faith in Jesus, consistently having relentless repentance and our rebirth in the Lord Jesus.
Our relationship with the Holy Spirit must be relentless and that is what leads us to perfection.
St. Paul encourages the Galatians to reflect that it was their faith in the Lord Jesus brought about all blessings. Our faith in Jesus must not be reduced to a set of doctrines and principles.
Our faith needs to be a lifelong commitment to Christ in the Holy Spirit.
The responsorial Psalm prays, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! God has visited God’s people.” (Lk.1:68).
Gospel teaches us to ask for the most important thing in our prayer. Persistence or boldness in prayer rewards at the end.
Clinging on to God in prayer offers the patience to wait for God to give that for which we pray.
Holy Father Francis encourages us in these words: “Prayer is like the oxygen of life. Prayer draws down upon us the presence of the Holy Spirit who always leads us forward. It is precisely humility that leads us to ask in prayer.”
We all have an endless list in prayer. It has never been sufficient in what we get as the material gifts from God. Somehow, we need to train our minds that God alone is sufficient no matter.
God may not answer all we ask yet God provides us the courage of the Holy Spirit to discern the will of God in times of difficulties, temptations, frustrations, and anxieties of life.
Even if we lack a perfect friendship with God due to one reason or the other, yet our persistence in our prayerful life will make God to grant our prayers.
Our boldness in asking God to help us to recognise the need for the guidance of Holy Spirit.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” (Lk.11:9).
Let us trust the Lord in prayer always that God will provide us anyway.
