Good morning good people!
May the Lord give you peace and blessings. It is 14th June 2025. We reflect on 2 Cor 5:14-21 and Matthew 5:33-37. It is the Saturday Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) inspires us, “If you ever feel distressed during your day — call upon our Lady. Just say this simple prayer: ‘Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now.’ I must admit — this prayer has never failed me.”
A young seminarian once confessed to his spiritual director that he struggled to remain consistent in his prayer life and often wavered in his vocation. The old priest smiled gently and asked, “Have you spoken to Mary about it?” The seminarian shook his head.
The priest continued, “Every time I was tempted to give up, I would sit before a statue of Our Lady and say, ‘Mother, I gave my Yes. Help me keep it today.’”
Years later, that seminarian became a bishop. In his coat of arms was one word: “Fiat.”
Because Mary kept her “Yes” — he was able to keep his.
Mary remains an authentic model of holiness, radiating peace and complete joy in Jesus. Her life reflects the perfect integration of mind and heart — a harmony shown in her faithful presence with the Lord Jesus and in her daily obedience to God’s will.
St. Paul encourages us to heal strained relationships, especially in our ecclesial encounters with one another. He speaks of Christ’s saving work — His mission of reconciliation and redemption. Through His sacrifice, Christ reconciled humanity to God. Indeed, Scripture affirms reconciliation begins with God, not with man.
The Gospel today invites us to be consistent and truthful in our response to God’s call. Jesus reminds us:
“Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:37)
In this brief but powerful verse, Christ demands truthfulness and integrity from His followers. If we have promised the Lord our faithfulness, we must constantly cleanse the dust of lies, pretence, and duplicity from our hearts. However, gifted we may be, without integrity, our witness loses power.
Let us honour what we have promised to the Lord and to His Church. Any attempt to withhold the truth or to manipulate reality undermines our mission and delays our timely response to God. Deception damages trust and disfigures holiness.
We are all called by God.
But let us ask ourselves today:
Have we responded truly, totally, and truthfully?
May the Lord grant us the grace to offer Him our sincere “Yes,” and the generosity to make the sacrifices required to follow Him with joy.
Have a blessed day. God bless you!
