May the Lord fill you with peace and health in the Holy Spirit.
It is 09th March 2022.
We reflect on Jonah 3:1-10 and Luke 11:29-32.
Jesus is not merely a sign alone but the signature of God.
God expects us to change the way we think, behave and act in a drastic and radical way during Lent.
The story of Jonah inspires us to rise from the pit of sin and shame just like the resurrection of Jesus. Taking our sweet time to change leads to lethargy, complacency and calming our consciences with false hope. As the Lord summoned Jonah, so we too are to proclaim a fast on our life. Lenten time is indeed another chance given by God through the Church again in a row of our living our lives. Conversion is the specific direction that pleases God.
“When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.” (Jonah 3:10).
There is something in our life that displeases God and there are things God appreciates in our life. It is time to do a personal inventory of our lives and plans to do all that we can do. The people we least expect to change have decided to change, what about us? Some of us are exempted from our fasting and penance due to reasons we have, but no one is exempted from the conversion of the heart. Being stubborn means refusing to accept the offer of mercy and forgiveness of God in our life.
What would be our reaction, or would we not change right away, if God would say to us that I am calling you back?
Familiarity with the Wisdom of the Father could lead us to take Him for granted. “Something greater than Solomon and Jonah is here!”
What is the one thing we have changed as far as we are about to complete the first week of Lent? What penance are we comfortable doing to focus on God? May God bless you.
