It is 29th March 2021. We are in the Holy Week.
The readings are from Isaiah 42:1-7; and the Gospel from John 12:1-11.
Suffering for others is the sacrifice of love we can offer to God.
The readings revolve around Jesus. In the first reading, we are reflecting the suffering servant of God pointing to Jesus. We have the first song of the servant of Yahweh from Isaiah.
Jesus who is humble, peaceful, and not retaliating when faced with the unjust treatment. God assures Him with the words of hope, encouragement, and blessings. “I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.” (Is.42:7). God promises God’s support to the suffering servant to face it all. We need to participate in the struggles of people. We need to move away being a spectator.
The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” (Ps.27:1)
It is time to be near Jesus as Mary, who anointed the feet of Jesus. While there are many are plotting to get rid of Him, the gesture of anointing attract condemnation from one of his disciples. When we do something for Jesus, there will be some people to criticise and condemn us. Our doing good does not add anything to Jesus. Our gesture brings blessings to us. The way Jesus looks at what we do is different from the way the materialistic and selfish world around looks at us. Since we are associating ourselves with Jesus, we too are in danger like Lazarus, who was witness to the work of Jesus. We too are presented with selfless love of Mary and selfish and deceptive love of Judas? Which one do we have at this moment in our life? May the Lord help us grow closer to Him by serving the vulnerable and marginalised around us. Have a lovely day.
