May the Lord give you peace and blessings in the Holy Spirit.
It is 16th November 2021.
We reflect on 2 Maccabees 6:18-31 and the Gospel of Luke 19:1-10. We celebrate the memorial of St Margaret of Scotland, and St Gertrude, virgin.
Just like the waves that do not stop dashing the shore, there are questions repeatedly splashing in our minds waiting to be enlightened and enshrined in our life. One such question is where do I look for what I want?
A closer connection between our choices and personal change. Transformation happens to us when we have made up our minds. Like Mattathias and Zacchaeus made a choice to be truthful to themselves.
The death of Eleazar, the teacher of the Law died for a noble cause that brought blessing to the entire nation. “So, in this way he died, leaving in his death an example of nobility and a memorial of courage, not only to the young but to the great body of his nation.” (2 Macc.6:31). Whether it was Socrates, Thomas More or Eleazar and all the martyrs had one thing in common that was their unswerving choices that brought about changes in lifestyle.
Every encounter has a phenomenal impact in our life, especially the encounter with Jesus never leaves until the desired change happens in us. Zacchaeus made a choice, and the change took place. Even if the whole does not like our choices, we need to be faithful and responsible in upholding those choices to make a difference in the world.
“Today salvation has come to this house because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.” (Lk.19:10). Whenever we have made a choice, we all experience the blessing of the Lord. It is by our choices; the Lord finds us as he found Zacchaeus. May the Lord help us to make the choice that benefits not only us individually but globally too. May God bless you.
