May the Lord give you peace in the Holy Spirit. It is on 14th June 2023. We reflect on 2 Cor 3:4-11 and Matthew 5:17-19.
Are we open to the Spirit?
In a world of cutthroat competition in everything, religion and religious leaders are not spared. One wants to swallow the other is the trend of the day. Someone wants to prove that God exists forgetting the existence of the suffering humanity. A group of people walk on the foot of the others without realizing the hurt they inflict. God exists even if humanity fails to display proof of God’s love. The beauty of a flower does not reduce or shrink in the absence of onlookers.
“For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Cor. 3:6). St. Paul claims that the New Covenant is founded in the Spirit that gives life unlike the Old based on the letter.
In life, we need to move forward to be fruitful, effective, and efficient. Yes, we need the guidance of the Old without ignoring the insights of the New.
If God is our Guide, then we will not afford to distract ourselves with guides. The time has come to watch out for the way we embrace the Spirit that offers life.
The Gospel explains what the disciple of Christ needs to act. Having explained the qualities of a disciple in the Beatitude, Jesus encourages us to abide by the law. The life of Jesus added colour to the interpretation of the law. Our interpretations of the law are to be seen in our reputed life.
“Whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” (Mt. 5:19).
Our reputation before God and people grow in following the commandments of God. To preserve we need to practice and to love we need to lean on. May the Lord bring the spiritual and material droughts and pandemic come to an end in His mercy and love. God bless you.
