Good morning good people!
May the Lord give you peace and blessings. We celebrate the memorial of Saint Barnabas, Apostle. We reflect on 2 Corinthians 3:4–11 and Matthew 5:17–19.
“Do not let your lamp be extinguished but keep it always burning in the Spirit. Be watchful in your faith, for the days are evil, and the enemy is restless. Let your love be true, your service humble, and your heart firm in Christ.” (Attributed to St. Barnabas, from early Christian writings).
There is something within us that never fades—and that is what God offers to those who serve Him and His people.
It is not by our personal qualifications or merits that God is glorified, but by living the Word of God, which endures forever. God has inscribed His Word deep within our being. St. Paul boldly affirms that his qualification for ministry comes from God, not from human approval or appointment.
However unworthy or sinful we may feel, God still chooses to do good through us, in us, and around us. “For if what was fading away came with splendour, what is permanent must have much more splendour.” (2 Cor. 3:11)
We must simply guard our hearts against self-righteous attitudes as we continue doing good. We build the Kingdom of God with bricks of love, unity, peace, mercy, and forgiveness.
It is not mere preaching of the Word that pleases God but living the Word. “But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Mt. 5:19)
Living God’s Word will disturb the conscience of others. People may not appreciate our faithfulness—but God does. “Love does no harm to a neighbour; therefore, love is the fulfilment of the law.” (Rom. 13:10)
If we love God, we cannot hate our neighbour. Whenever we struggle to love someone, we must examine our hearts—for something within us is hindering our love for God.
Life is brief, like a morning mist. Let us not waste it on hatred, indifference, or unforgiving hearts. Let us always remember what St. Paul taught: “We are ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
May you be filled with peace and blessings.
Have a peaceful day.
God bless you.
