May the Lord give you peace, health, and happiness in the Holy Spirit.
It is 20th May 2024.
As we enter the time during the year, we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady, Mother of the Church.
We reflect on Gen 3:9-15, 20 and John 19:25-34.
It is so fitting to celebrate this day for our Mother just because of Her prayerful life and presence in the Church, especially accompanying the disciples after Jesus ascended to the Father and She continues to accompany us through Her maternal care and intercession.
Though the title of Mary, Mother of the Church, is a new addition to the liturgical calendar of the Church and officially approved by the Second Vatican Council by Pope Paul VI but so fittingly recognised and celebrated by the initiatives of His holiness Pope Francis.
However, the story of Pentecost will be incomplete without the Presence and the Person of Mother Mary.
In the first reading, Eve became the mother of all living and in the Gospel, we witness the presence of Mary not only near Her Only Son Jesus but also with the budding Church in the company of the apostles.
Two reading indirectly point to Mary as “woman” refers to the Mother of the Church as She is the Mother of God.
She is the Mother of the Church by Her unwavering affirmation of the will and plan of God. She set a new tone and teamed with the Apostles in Her presence, prayer, and persistent encouragement.
We read, “And from that hour the disciple took her into his home,” Yes, we too bring Mary into our home, our Church and personal spiritual life.
Let us continue to thank God by behaving the way that pleases God and the expectations of our Beloved Mother Mary. God bless you.
