It is 8th February 2021. We celebrate the memorial of St Josephine Bakhita, the patron saint of victims of modern slavery and human trafficking and St Jerome Emiliani for the care of orphans and the poor. He is the Patron saint of orphans.
The readings are from Genesis 1:1-19; and the Gospel from Mark 6:53-56.
The purpose of creation story at the beginning of the Bible has an intense purpose and schema of God explained in a simple understanding. It is not a scientific discourse rather it is more of a detailed exposure of relationship between God and humanity with a clear message of God is Good and One and all God creates is good. We read about the first four days of separation and beautifying of the plan for God’s creation. God brought so much order out of chaos. This book serves as an introduction to the Pentateuch. The Spirit of God was present in this process of God’s Word displayed in its action. “For the Lord has made all things.” (Sir.43:33). God separated, beatified, and made the creation so good but we pollute the creating without recognising the purpose at times.
The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “May the Lord be glad in his works.” (104:31).
Hope and healing comes from Jesus. Yes, God created the world so good, yet we find so much of darkness, sickness, injustice, disorder, grief, pain and suffering due to our own choices. The healing touch of Jesus makes everything back to the original good. The longing to be touched by Jesus is in everyone of us at this moment of pandemic and uncertainty more than ever. “They begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.” (Mk.6:56). God’s touch brought order to the world while the touch of Jesus brings integral healing and wholeness for us all. There is a sense of urgency in being touched by the Lord for us all. As we all long for the healing touch of Jesus, may our sensible and healing touch bring the desired integral healing to our families, and relationships. May you have a good day. God bless you.
