It is 21st December 2020. We celebrate the memorial of St. Peter Canisius, Religious and Doctor.
The readings are from Zephaniah 3:14-18 and the Gospel from Luke 1:39-45.
Joy comes where Christ is present.
We feel even more joyful when God strengthens our life and all that are fragile. The first reading injects such joy in our life. There is surely nothing to fear. The presence of God dispels the reign of darkness in and around us.
“The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; God will rejoice over you with gladness, God will renew you in his love.” (Zeph.3:17).
Everything is going to be fine soon as we expect the Lord amidst us.
The responsorial Psalm praise, “Cry out with joy in the Lord, your holy ones; sing a new song to him.” (Ps.33:3).
As we reflect the Visitation, we are invited to spread the joy of Christ to people around. We too carry the Lord in our being around. The gushing forth of joy from the heart of Elizabeth in encountering the mother of God. Sheer presence of Christ in the womb of Mary brings unexplainable joy for Elizabeth.
“For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” (Lk. 1:45). God showed unfathomable mercy to Elizabeth and Mary. No one can explain the joy in display in their meeting. God meeting humanity; the saviour greets the prophet; and heaven meets with the earth.
May the Lord bless us all to share the joy of believing in Jesus with others. Have a lovely day. God bless you.
