May the Lord give you grace and peace in the Holy Spirit. It is on 01st February 2023. We celebrate the memorial of St. Bridget. We reflect on Hebrews 12:4-7, 11-15 and Mark 6:1-6.
Fulton J. Sheen shared his experience in the following way. “On the subway, I got up and gave my seat to a lady who was holding onto a strap. She was rather surprised and said, “Why did you do that?” Seeing that she was incapable of understanding a spiritual reason, “Madam, I tell you ever since I was a little boy, I have had an infinite respect for a woman with a strap in her hand.”
Do we need discipline in our life?
“Discipline is doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done in the best possible way it can be done every time it needs to be done.”
What we do personally when no one is around and cannot be noticed sums up our character.
Discipline does not require a display. It is the inner regulations Discipline is a decent and sensible behaviour that grooms, grates, and grasps our personality.
The understanding of the author of Hebrews on discipline differs from what we call discipline today. We cannot be a disciple of Christ without being disciplined by God. Every discipline brings discomfort and pain for a moment but is a blessing and protection in the long run. Discipline designs the environment of peace right within and around.
Love does not exclude admonitions, correction, and counsel. Admiration attracts but admonitions adorn the person, but everything is in moderation and proportion. When it is overdone, it loses its purpose. Discipline needs to be free from bitterness, hatred, and personal agenda.
God did not spare God’s Only Son Jesus from suffering. The rejection faced by Jesus is the expression of suffering.
Rejecting discipline means rejecting God’s counsel in our life. May we always be ready to embrace the discipline God offers out of love for us. God bless you.
