Music is God’s gift to every human heart and soul, but our life is the orchestra in which we could perform God’s music tirelessly

May the Lord bless you with grace, peace, and health in the Holy Spirit.

It is 22nd November 2021.

We celebrate the memorial of St Cecilia, Virgin and Martyr.  She is well known as the patron of musicians and choirs since the 16th century.

We reflect on Daniel 1:1-6, 8-20 and the Gospel of Luke 21:1-4.

When our life is attuned to God’s rhythm, our life is the music of God.  The best timing, the beat and the symphony come in as we go by the harmony of God.

It is not what we put in that offers strength to move on but all that comes from within.  In every one of us, there is a piece of music.  It is our responsibility to play it in a way it does not become cacophony rather meticulously mended symphony with every mild and melodious music of the other.  “Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” (Eph. 5.  18; Col. 3.  16)

Life is so beautiful with its modulation, moderation, and modernisation.  The code of music is the constant nod of the soul to God.  Music is the thanksgiving of a faithful life.  St. Teresia Benedicta encourages us telling, “The nation doesn’t simply need what we have.  It needs what we are.”

Music is God’s gift to every human heart and soul, but our life is the orchestra in which we could perform God’s music tirelessly.  Like that of the young men in the first reading, though they had frugal meals, their life was so strong.  No need to give what we do not have.  We are all expected to give all that we have.

The gesture of the widow is a gentle reminder for all of us.  We all have something to give, and we need to give it without force, formality, and fanciful way.  According to the Gospel of Luke, the disciple and the follower of Christ need to detach and let go of the grip of money and the false security that promises to offer.

May the Lord give us the courage to play music of love, mercy, and forgiveness and that is the best giving and everyone can do it.
