May the Lord give you peace and health in the Holy Spirit.

It is 10th June 2021.

We celebrate the memorial of St Ephrem, Deacon and Doctor of the Church.

We reflect from 2 Corinthians 3:15-4:1, 3-6; and the Gospel from Matthew 5:20-26.

We are born to radiate the light of God’s glory.  God’s glory is reflected through our transformation that lifts all the veil and obstacles between us and God by our repentance.

Is anger eating up and destroying the spiritual welfare in our life?

When we expect something from others, we get disappointed that leads us to become angry.  St. Paul encourages us to deal our anger than to destroy the ministry and power to love.

A foolish king complained that the rough grounds hurt his feet and so ordered the whole country to be carpeted.  One of the ministers commented saying it is better having a sandal for protecting your feet than to pave every nook and corner of the kingdom.

Jesus invites us to deal with our emotions that lead to untoward actions that we regret in our life.  murdering is action while being angry is a feeling.

Some of us are angry round the clock for no reason.  A saint was asked: what is anger? “It is a punishment we give to ourselves for somebody else’s mistake.” Today’s saint St. Ephrem inspires us telling: “Prayer prevents emotions of anger, pride and envy.”

Our negative thinking contributes to all our anger and indifference.  God is not pleased with our offertory when we still harbour anger and hatred towards our brothers and sisters.  We all lose temper no matter how saintly, pious, righteous person we can be and end up inflicting and causing injury ourselves and others. Our sarcastic remarks and comparing attitudes are the evidence of suppressed anger in us.  Let us keep our anger in check to be a blessing.

“Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil.” (Eph 4:26)

Our sinfulness or holiness depend upon the way we handle our anger in our life.  let us settle the issues of anger, rage, and hatred before we approach the altar of mercy.  Have a day free of anger.  God bless you.
